Back & Neck Pain

About 80% of the UK population will suffer lower back pain at some point in their life, that is 4 out of 5 people! Why is it so common? Problems arise from working postures, bad habits, previous injuries, or illnesses.

Why is it so common ? To start with, it is not true that our spine is poorly designed and is not strong enough, just the opposite!
Two things are definitely true about low back pain and they are:

  1. Where we feel the pain in our back, is not necessarily where the problem is
  2. Our lifestyle, habits and understanding of our body are major reasons why back pain is still so common.

The most common causes are:

  • Lack of physical activity and / or loss of fitness
  • Exercise regimes that aggravate the spine rather than strengthen
  • Working environment
  • Belief that rest helps cure problems

Common symptoms are:

  • Sudden sharp stabbing pain in lower back
  • Aching across lower back
  • Aching in lower neck into shoulder / arm
  • Leg pain down the front or back of leg, into lower leg and foot.
  • Morning stiffness which goes during the day but comes back at the end of your day.
  • Back / neck pain aggravated by exercise
  • Pins and needles which come and go, in leg or arm
